The Yoga Education in Prisons Trust, NZ, commissioned me to photograph one of the yoga classes that are held regularly at Remutaka Prison. I had never been into a prison before so I was not sure how I would feel once I found myself inside the wire fences. However, being in a yoga class (familiar) and having a photographic focus (again familiar) made me feel very much at ease. 

The challenge of this documentary commission was the requirement that all images were not to identify any of the inmates. No faces, no identifiable tattoos.

Thank you to Atmabhava for welcoming me into his teaching environment and ensuring I was comfortable. And thank you Adhyatma for trusting me to take this job on, a job that means a lot to me. And thank you to the inmates for showing me (and my camera) just how deep and vital your practice of yoga has become.
