Hi there.
My name is Catherine Adam and I am the founder of Wonderbird Photography & Design Studio. I am a graphic designer and photographer, with over 20 years experience in the industry in New Zealand and New York, USA.
I am based in Paekakariki, Kapiti Coast, Wellington. I have a reputation for being a very professional, respectful and creative visual communicator.
When I am not designing and photographing I am practicing yoga, sitting in silence, connecting with good humans, enjoying the infinite beauty of the nature that surrounds us.

How Wonderbird works
Every project is unique and I don’t cut any corners in getting to know exactly what it is you need to communicate and to who. I keep this process very real — we work together to discover the essence of your project (I always enjoy drawing this clarity out, and I think you will too!). Then I go about communicating all of your projects greatness with compelling, authentic and unique-to-you visual design.
It’s a creative collaboration. I include you in the full process:
We are working together. Throughout my creative process there is a healthy dose of communication between you and me. There is no grand reveal at the end — that you have to love no matter what — instead, there are many collaborative steps along the way to ensure that all our ideas are part of your project’s great end result.
A flexible team of creatives offering the ease of a one-stop creative shop!
I collaborate with other wonderful creatives throughout New Zealand to ensure that your project is completed to the highest level — this includes, illustrators, videographers and spatial designers and we work on projects large and small.
Wonderbird’s values
Bring goodness and kindness to the world and effect positive change.
This runs through every aspect of my business, including all my client communication, the creative design process through to the hand-over of the finished product. I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with all my clients and guiding them through the wonderful design process (always an exciting ride with all kinds of hidden treasures just waiting to be revealed!). And yes, there is almost always a good dose of enjoyment along the way for everyone involved.
I have loved all of my experience to date
I have been working in the world of visual communication for the past 23 years.
After graduating for the College of Creative Arts, I started out in the film industry in Wellington, following which I had four years having a great time in design studios in New York City. Upon my return to Wellington I worked in exhibition and experience design for a few years before being employed by the College of Creative Arts, Massey University, where I taught typography (everything fascinating about type!), creative-directed at Open Lab (the design studio on campus), and very much enjoyed mentoring junior designers as they stepped into the world of designing for clients.
